Books Academy proudly showcased Yank Shi’s book, “My Three Human Lives”, at the prestigious 2024 Frankfurt International Book Fair, held from October 16 to 20 in Frankfurt, Germany.
The Frankfurt Book Fair provided an opportunity for outstanding books to shine this year. Both readers and publishing industry leaders were drawn to these pieces because of their compelling themes and distinctive viewpoints. “My Three Human Lives” by Yank Shi explores the fascinating concept of reincarnation through the eyes of a protagonist who experiences three distinct lives, each with its own unique challenges and stories. Beginning with extraordinary memories, the protagonist recalls life as a baby in the womb even life as a ghost in Hades after death. Through reincarnation, the protagonist lives as a cat before transitioning into human forms in three separate lifetimes.
In the first human life, the protagonist is a wise and beautiful woman from an upper-class family in the Republic of China before 1949. In the second human life, the protagonist is reborn as a righteous young man from a poor peasant family, living through the tumultuous years leading to the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. In the third life, the protagonist is a young professor with artistic temperament and a promising writer in modern-day America, working to pen the very book you are reading.
The narrative weaves together the protagonist’s personal experiences, love affairs encounters with a wide variety of folk stories in different lands and eras. Each life brings new perspectives the connections between characters from the protagonist’s various lives create amazing and dramatic plots, adding layers of intrigue and depth.
“My Three Human Lives” is an exploration of love, identity cultural shifts as experienced across three lifetimes—spanning the political and social landscapes of the Republic of China, the PRC modern America.
